Chasing after a deviant Vampire and running from a cannibal cult the pair was determined to save the world—if only an annoying Mage and some arrogant demons would keep out of the way.

The writer had developed realms and characters with depiction in such a way I was utterly engrossed from beginning to end making this one of my favorite reads. This is the perfect book for people who want to retreat into paranormal fantasy.

This is a well-written, interesting, complex read. Those expecting a'Twilight' style book will be disappointed but it was thoroughly refreshing with a well-developed main character and a fascinating world. I loved the relationships with the other breeds of the world, in particular between Florian (the main character) and the mischievous elf, Zyre. The book details an exciting, interesting journey in a world full of conflicting societies and colourful characters. A great break from the norm!
Florian Ribeni knows everything about lust but not love, in his typically stereotypical form of a narcissistic vampire. The writing style is very descriptive and the plot was well done. There was an overabundance of characters and character interactions which made the book very confusing to read.

Catering to the fantasies of your target audience's collective unconscious is the bedrock of big art-money - Rebel Without a Cause, Smells Like Teen Spirit. Fact one word comes immediately to mind - Twilight. You think Harold Bloom reckons Hamlet's extraordinary for its science or philosophy? Here, Katri Cardew (that name!) takes all those wet seats and throbbing hearts to the panting ultimate of shameless odaxelagnia - The Immaculate Adventures of One Florian Ribeni, Book 4, with glossary. Fantasy becomes fantasy, all teeth and blood and nighttime gardens, murk and vaseline. "Martyc was beautiful with his ferocious scowl and bold movement" or "it was her obvious ennui despite being surrounded by those in various states of undress that intrigued the yet to be deflowered boy."
Anyone scared of being caught reading "vampire-erotica" should damn well be scared by the shamelessness of this novel. Anyone with the slightest pomp in their self-image would be mortified by the "yet to be deflowered boy." Both groups should steer clear. But pop cults like this are payola for those post modern enough to 'get' the weirdness, and those without dignity, taste, or arrogance. The relentlessness of the plot and ripeness of the flesh, make a first reading dazzling; a second comforting. Any book capable of being read twice is worth buying once.
If you think this just some chick's fantasy you're not thinking too hard - you're not looking at Hamlet here; if you want some pretensions to hide behind, you know where the "Classics" section is in Dymocks. By the way, plot, themes, and style are present also. Staying well out of the loose baggy monster terrain of most novels, especially those multi-storeyed fantasy novels, Cardew streamlines her graphic fantasies into an MTVish onslaught of glittering homoeroticism, redolent wealth, ridiculous names, and great chapter titles ("A Vampire Out of His Depth," "Reckoning of a Vampire Nature") If this is some chick's fantasy, then hop in. Enjoy it, damn it. Try and find some dirty words in it. I dare you.
I'll read anything with vampires. Anything, but that doesn't mean it's any good. So when I have the pleasure of reading a novel as complex and richly mapped as this one, it is double the pleasure and three times the fun. Florian Ribeni is a newly created "runner" and is in training when we first meet him. He's being shown the ropes, and we the reader are taken along on his spectacular journey of lusty, indulgent escapades. As if a society of vampires wasn't enough, There are elves, mages, demons and gargoyles, each with their own set of complicated politics and social conventions. In the end, torn between love and duty, which would claim him?
A fascinating journey through a perception of a world much unlike our own. A world with many races and types of characters such as intelligent vampires, mages, and demons are a part of what makes this book so intricate. The author's writing style manages to pull off adding many different elements into one great plot, it's very detailed and articulate and it's a major factor in why I respect the writer so much. Katri Cadew doesn't just write in a way that tells a story, she writes a style that is so visually rich that it shows you what she is trying to express. This book focuses on Florian, who becomes a vampire runner - part of a vampire militia, Florian finds himself defending a younger vampire who is trying to escape a succubi cult which leads him on an exhilarating adventure. We follow him on his journey throughout various escapades that have many twists and turns that I never would have expected. If you're into sophisticated books with a well-thought out background and characters, then this book is for you
